Impact of Covid-19 on Iran Factory-Made Bread Market

Demand for factory-made bread sharply surged in Iran during the first quarter of 2020 and after the first cases of the novel coronavirus were officially reported by Islamic Republic authorities.

Iranian market research agency emrc, a dnaunion subsidiary studied Iran bread market during the first quarter of 2020. According to the agency’s finding, Covid-19 had a significant impact on Iran bread market. The agency adds that other sectors have also been affected by the viral outbreak.

Four types of factory-made bread are offered in Iran market, namely Flat, Slice, Half Bulk, Crispy.

The emrc has reviewed the market of factory-made bread in six major Iranian cities, namely Tehran, Isfahan, Shiraz, Tabriz, Karaj, and Mashhad.

Tehran Market

In Tehran, four types of factory-made bread are offered, namely Flat, Slice, Half Bulk, Crispy. Flat breads have 48% share in the market based on the number of packages sold, followed by Slice bread with 29%, Half Bulk 22% and Crispy bread 0.2%.

Factory-made bread sales in Tehran observed a 26% surge during the first quarter of 2020 compared to the same period of the last year.

Furthermore, factory-made bread sales in Tehran hiked 53% during the first quarter of 2020 compared to 2019 fourth quarter.

Isfahan Market

Flat factory-made breads have 54% share in Isfahan market based on the number of packages sold, followed by Slice bread with 15%, Half Bulk 30% and Crispy bread 0.8%.

Factory-made bread sales in Isfahan declined 1% during the first quarter of 2020 compared to the same period of the last year.

Furthermore, factory-made bread sales in Isfahan hiked 21% during the first quarter of 2020 compared to 2019 fourth quarter.

Shiraz Market

Flat factory-made breads have 63% share in Shiraz market based on the number of packages sold, followed by Slice bread with 14%, Half Bulk 17% and Crispy bread 7%.

Factory-made bread sales in Shiraz plummeted 44% during the first quarter of 2020 compared to the same period of the last year.

Furthermore, factory-made bread sales in Shiraz hiked 32% during the first quarter of 2020 compared to 2019 fourth quarter.

Tabriz Market

Flat factory-made breads have 88% share in Tabriz market based on the number of packages sold, followed by Slice bread with 1%, Half Bulk 9% and Crispy bread 2%.

Factory-made bread sales in Tabriz declined 19% during the first quarter of 2020 compared to the same period of the last year.

Furthermore, factory-made bread sales in Tabriz increased 12% during the first quarter of 2020 compared to 2019 fourth quarter.

Karaj Market

Flat factory-made breads have 27% share in Karaj market based on the number of packages sold, followed by Slice bread with 30%, Half Bulk 43% and Crispy bread 0.1%.

Factory-made bread sales in Karaj jumped 103% during the first quarter of 2020 compared to the same period of the last year.

Furthermore, factory-made bread sales in Karaj increased 166% during the first quarter of 2020 compared to 2019 fourth quarter.

Mashhad Market

Flat factory-made breads have 43% share in Mashhad market based on the number of packages sold, followed by Slice bread with 21%, Half Bulk 36% and Crispy bread 0.1%.

Factory-made bread sales in Mashhad soared 19% during the first quarter of 2020 compared to the same period of the last year.

Furthermore, factory-made bread sales in Mashhad jumped 39% during the first quarter of 2020 compared to 2019 fourth quarter.
