Samsung Flagship Smart Phones Reimagined
Samsung Electronics launched its latest top-of-the-line smartphones, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, in a ceremony held in Tehran shortly after Iran hosted the World Mobile Congress (MWC).
The ceremony enjoyed a different ideation and performance which created excitement and enthusiasm in the audience encouraging them to get more information on the Samsung Galaxy flagship phones. The ceremony was planned in such a way that the audience discovered the various angles of the S9 and S9+ up-to-the-minute.
The ceremony was co-hosted by Eshareh Advertising Agency and the DMN-A Brand Experience Agency from the dnaunion group. The unveiling ceremony included different sections and the audience from the start, namely from extension of invitations to various parts of the ceremony, got familiar with the main message and launch of the new Samsung products and were very curios.
Iranian Society Likened to a Lovely Family of Samsung
The inaugural address at the ceremony was made by B///////……., the CEO of Samsung’s Iran Office. Congratulating the audience on the occasion of Nowruz (New Year), he said Samsung is considering the Iranian community as a lovely family and attaches great importance to it. He said this has been evident in all Samsung actions. For example, he said, Samsung has unveiled its most advanced products in Iran concurrently – and in some cases even sooner than global markets. He added that Samsung has been a pioneer in implementing a variety of social responsibility activities.
Launching campaigns in the field of environment and forests of Iran, assistance to earthquake victims in Kermanshah, and inauguration and equipping of audio libraries for the blind have been among the activities of the company. In addition, Samsung has launched the Advanced Technology Center or Amir Kabir Engineering Academy. So, we have respected the community, art and culture of Iranians anywhere in the world and gathered together to meet the demands of the users. The most recent product of Samsung, namely Galaxy S9 and S9+ is unveiled at this event – A product we ask the audience to “reimagine” everything!
Pricing and Distribution of New Samsung Product
Alireza Tavasoli, Senior Mobile Manager (Samsung), was pleased to announce the launch of Samsung’s new product coinciding with the end of the year and Nowruz (New Year). He said Samsung achieved great successes last year. In the past year, the company established constructive relations with the media and government agencies. Samsung has paid special attention to the Iranian market, and in line with this important issue, the S9 and S9+ flagship smart phones have been introduced in Iran shortly after their global launch and faster than many other markets. Tavasoli said S9+ and S9 are the first Samsung products that are covered by the registry scheme. This is due to the fact that Samsung, according to statistics provided by the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, accounts for nearly 50% of Iran’s market share. Under these circumstances, Samsung is committed to changing the overall mobile business environment in the Iranian market and is always striving to be law-oriented and operate in line with the prevailing conditions in Iran.

Samsung values a registry scheme that is transparent in terms of distribution in the Iranian market and through which healthy institution networks can be supported. As a result of this plan, the product supplied to the market will be authentic and distributed more properly. In this case, the goods will be supplied to customers at fixed prices. The plan will surely have implications such as shortage of supply and price fluctuations in the market. In order to overcome these consequences, Samsung has increased the number of its major distributors from three to thirty selected dealers. This change has been made to speed up product distribution in the Iranian market. The company also launched stores called “Samsung Exclusive.” The launch started in 2009 with four stores and it will reach 120 by the end of 2018, due to the welcome shown by the audience.
Samsung plans to manage all its stores in accordance with global standards. In addition, Samsung has launched its VIP service after supplying S7 smartphone to the market. After years these services have become a plus to market choice. In the same vein, Samsung will provide VIP services to those who purchase Galaxy S9+ and S9 by the end of Spring 97. It should also be noted that the advance sale of Galaxy S9+ and S9 started in Iran concurrent with and the leading global markets. The advance sale, in addition to the cyberspace, has also taken place at Samsung’s selected stores. This time, the number of advance sales has grown considerably. This reflects the belief of customers in exact timing of Samsung’s delivery and the company’s commitment to them.
The important point is that Samsung started to supply the cell phones it had sold in advance earlier than the schedule and before the New Year (Nowruz 97). The phones will be delivered with special gifts to enthusiasts. Samsung will also offer its flagships in a “blue carpet” design with special discounts and limited purchases. The blue carpet is very important because it’s a direct connection between Samsung and its audience. We hope to launch the ‘blue carpet’ in a near future at all Samsung shopping points.
Tavasoli added that Samsung’s activities are not limited to offering the product to the market and called for carrying the winter torch last year. After the call, 16,000 statements were sent to the Samsung office after this call. Out of this number, nine inspiring figures were chosen to represent all Iranians and the responsible of carrying the torch, was given to Bahram Radan (actor). Interestingly, from among all the Samsung offices, only the Iranian office except celebrities has picked influential but unknown people to carry the torch.
Furthermore, the Samsung group during the launch of Galaxy Note 8 had promised to implement a plan for digital painting. To do this, another invitation was made asking the audience to redefine their surroundings by combining pictures of painting, photography and design. In line with this call, 4500 works were sent to us from all over the country. Eventually and after a review by senior experts, 21 works were selected for public display. At the next stage, the top artists were asked to recreate their delicate work with the magic of the Galaxy Note 8. Ultimately three works were selected and displayed in the city’s out-of-home advertising. Samsung is leading the way with its audience and is proud of it.
Adaptation of S9+ and S9 Cameras with the Surroundings
The third speaker of the event was Bita Fathali, Samsung Mobile Marketing Manager in Iran. She said: “In today’s world, mobile phones have become the most personal means for people. Samsung has always tried to provide handsets to connect its audience to their surroundings in their own language. Accordingly, the Hashtag Galaxy Note 8 was introduced to the market to make it easier for the audience to create beautiful, borderless free screens. The flagship was also presented to the market for this purpose.
The rear camera on the Galaxy S9+ has a dual aperture lens that provides a variable aperture of between f/1.5 to f/2.4, and a resolution of 12MP.
The Galaxy S9 does not come with a dual camera, but is fitted with Samsung’s Super Speed Dual Pixel 12MP AF sensor. This allows it to produce a software-based bokeh effect without the need for dual cameras.
Both phones sport an 8MP front camera.
Like the iris of a human eye, which expands and contracts in response to the level of ambient light to maintain subject focus, the Dual Aperture intuitively lets in more light when it is dark and less light when it is too bright.
If a user is taking a wide-angle shot – a landscape photo, for example – f/2.4 will kick in to ensure that the entire composition is in focus.
If the camera senses that the user is in a dimly-lit room and is about to take a portrait, f/1.5 activates to gives sharper, brighter images and portraits with a bokeh effect.
The new camera system is a slight improvement over that of the Galaxy Note8, Samsung’s first smartphone to offer dual cameras. That had an aperture range of f/1.7 (wide-angle) to f/2.4 (telephoto), and it did not have the dual aperture function.
Compared to the Galaxy Note8, the redesigned camera of the Galaxy S9+ also admits 28 per cent more light while cutting down “noise” in images by 30 per cent. It does so by combining a total of 12 frames into one – it reads four frames to create one image, and three of these are combined to offer the effect of capturing 12 frames.
It is similar to, but also an improvement over, the dual cameras offered in rival Apple’s iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X.
Super Slo-Mo & Personalized AR Emojis
Damon Boqrat, Samsung’s development and training manager, was another speaker at the ceremony. He said: Today’s audiences are constantly characterizing their messages, and that’s why they’ve used emoji and characters. Emoji used on mobile phones are all signs and there is no trace of the audience.
There is a camera that turns you into an emoji, so you’re not the “you” everyone else is. Create an Augmented Reality version of yourself simply by taking a selfie. Then share your real-life feelings as emoji stickers and videos. Express your emotions with AR Emoji stickers.
Other than the Super Low Light function, the powerful camera drives two other innovative features: Super slo-mo and personalized AR emojis. All three features are available on the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+.
By capturing slow-motion video at 960 frames per second (fps), Super Slo-mo gives users the ability to shoot and record The Matrix-style action sequences.
Automatic Motion Detection recognizes movement in the frame and automatically begins to record. Users simply have to set up the shot and hold the phone steady.
Once done, users can add music from their playlists and convert the Super Slo-mo videos into GIF files to be shared.
In a move set to upstage Apple’s Animoji feature, the new phones let users create customizable emojis. AR Emoji uses an advanced machine learning algorithm that analyses a user’s portrait to map out more than 100 facial features.
This creates a true-to-life 3D model of the user, like an avatar, that imitates subtle expressions such as winks and nods.
The AR Emojis are saved as GIFs, which can then be used across most third-party messaging apps such as WhatsApp and WeChat. There is also a feature that transforms personalized emojis into GIF stickers.
Other notable features include Live Translation on Bixby – Samsung’s intelligence platform – which lets users translate foreign languages and currency in real time.
The DeX Pad, a new flat docking system, allows the new phones to couple to a larger monitor, keyboard and mouse via a USB-C connector. This enables users to edit documents or play mobile games on a full screen. Additionally, both phones can transform into Touch Keyboards and/or Touch Pads.
The fingerprint sensor has also been repositioned below the rear camera, instead of being adjacent to it.
Like its predecessors, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ sport 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch edge-to-edge Super AMOLED displays, respectively.
The chassis are comparable in size to their counterparts in the previous generation, though the new phones are slightly heavier. Battery life remains the same as their counterparts as well: 3,000 mAh and 3,500 mAh for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ respectively.
The Galaxy S9 has a 4GB RAM – no change from the Galaxy S8/S8+. The Galaxy S9+ is equipped with a 6GB RAM.
Operating on the Android 8 OS, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be available in four colors – Midnight Black, Titanium Gray, Coral Blue and a new hue, Lilac Purple.
The important question was whether it is possible to design a camera that could adapt like the human eye. Another question is that whether it is possible to slow down the passage of time? These are questions that S9+ and S9 smart phones have the answers.
At the end of this exciting event, the audience listened to some pleasant music and the participants were given a chance to test the new smartphones. The organizers provided a fascinating atmosphere for them, and the audience could use different scenes for photography. Such conditions made the audience familiar with the real world of Samsung flagship and unforgettable memories of the unveiling ceremony.
